Clinton County Dems raise $1,623 for Relay for Life with Spaghetti Dinner, surpass total goal of $2,000

A Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser held on April 24 helped the Clinton County Dems Kick Cancer (CCDKC) Relay for Life team raise $1,623 for locals impacted by cancer.

The event total, when combined with roughly $1,600 raised through other ongoing fundraising efforts prior to the spaghetti dinner, helped the CCDKC team surpass its original goal of raising $2,000 for Relay for Life by more than $1,000.

Dozens of community members streamed into the third floor banquet hall at the Lock Haven Sons & Daughters of Italy at 1 N. Henderson St. in Lock Haven to enjoy a tasty meal while supporting a good cause. The menu featured spaghetti and meatballs, salad and bread, as well as desserts and beverages. Take-out orders were available, in addition to the traditional sit-down dinner.

Funds raised during the event were from a combination of ticket sales, 50/50 tickets, a raffle, luminaria sponsorships, and general donations, explained Roxanne Embick, co-chair of the CCDKC team.

“We are proud to be working together as a team to help raise funds for such an important cause and to honor those impacted by cancer locally,” said Embick. “Cancer is a disease that affects the lives of so many Americans; those who have not been personally touched by it typically know someone who has in one way, shape or form. We hope that the funds we’re raising will help local families in need of support.”

Embick also thanked those who volunteered, attended and helped support the planning of the event overall.

“There were approximately 145 dinners served, including take-outs,” she said. “Special thanks goes to the Sons and Daughters of Italy for sponsoring the event, Rona Houser for guiding our group of newbies, Angela and Alan Black for donating raffle items, all of the folks who donated desserts, those who attended, and of course all the volunteers who readied take-out orders, served meals, and assisted with clean up.”

CCDKC is one of 15 teams participating in the Clinton County Relay for Life, which has a goal to raise $65,000 by the end of the Relay for Life event on Saturday, May 18. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Riverview Park and will feature live entertainment, food available for sale, and more.
