Elsie McClintick honored as 2019 Democrat of the Year

During the Candidates Dinner on June 27, longtime Democrat Elsie McClintick was honored as the 2019 Democrat of the Year.

Elsie, who has been a Democrat for over 70 years and has voted in every election, encouraged people to be active, saying, “Just keep working… If we don’t work, where will we be?”

The event, held at the Dunnstown Fire Hall, featured music entertainment by Phil Reeder, a silent auction, and speeches by local candidates, including:  Paul Conklin and Angela Harding, candidates for county commissioner; Dave Strouse, district attorney; Kerry Stover, sheriff; Joel Long, city mayor; Bill Mincer and Richard Morris, city council. Rick Vilello spoke on behalf of his wife, Marie Vilello, who is running for reelection as prothonotary, as she was out of town for work-related trainings.

Clinton County Democratic Committee Chairwoman Rose Reeder spoke about the local party’s efforts to serve the community over the last year through new initiatives, such as creating a Relay for Life team and gathering for roadside cleanups as participants in PennDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program.  She encouraged people to find ways to get involved in the local party to help make a difference.
