2020 Candidates

There are many offices up for election in 2020 — including: President of the United States, U.S. Congress, Pennsylvania Attorney General, Pennsylvania Auditor General, Pennsylvania State Treasurer, Pennsylvania State Representative, Pennsylvania State Senator.

Candidates listed below earned the Democratic Party’s nomination in the June 2, 2020, Primary Election and will be moving on to the November 3 General Election.


PA 76TH HOUSE DISTRICT

Joe Waltz

Joe Waltz is seeking the Democratic nomination to become state representative in Pennsylvania’s 76th House District. After serving 34 years as an educator, Waltz retired from the Keystone Central School District in 2007. Waltz’s campaign will focus on the issues that keep people awake at night — jobs and decent pay; quality, affordable education; fiscal responsibility and accountability to the taxpayer.  Waltz also noted that he will champion quality infrastructure — including roads, bridges, and broadband internet, as well as a safe environment for rural Pennsylvania.

PA 25TH SENATE DISTRICT

Margie Brown

Margie Brown is a former public school teacher, and she currently serves on St. Marys City Council while working as a part-time Broadcast Communications professor at Pitt Bradford. In her campaign for state Senate, she is focused on issues that affect the residents of Pennsylvania’s 25th Senate District, including the ability to make ends meet, put food on the table, and get their kids off to a good start. A current Elk County resident, Brown was born in Potter County and raised in McKean County.

PA ATTORNEY GENERAL

Josh Shapiro

Josh Shapiro seeks to be reelected as Attorney General so he can continue protecting everyday Pennsylvanians. As Attorney General, Josh has stood up for the rule of law and is safeguarding Pennsylvanians’ rights. He has taken on child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, twice secured national injunctions protecting women’s access to no-cost contraception as required by the Affordable Care Act, and is fighting our country’s opioid epidemic. Prior to becoming Attorney General, Josh served as a State Representative and as Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners. Josh Shapiro earned his law degree at night from Georgetown University.

PA AUDITOR GENERAL

Nina Ahmad

Nina Ahmad

Nina Ahmad is running for State Auditor General to restore two things in short supply in Pennsylvania: Accountability and transparency. She hopes to restore trust in government. Ahmad seeks to shine a bright light on sexual harassment in government, take on Big Pharma to lower costs on life saving medicines and end the flow of opioids into our Communities.

12th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Lee Griffin

Lee Griffin

Lee Griffin feels a moral obligation to our country to do everything he can to right this ship. Too much has gone wrong for too long, and he cannot stand by and let it continue. Griffin has learned a lot about leadership in his life, from his youth as an Eagle Scout to his current profession leading hundreds of employees. Griffin is moving to the 12th District, where most of his family lives. Griffin describes himself as a social progressive and a straight shooter who respects the viewpoints of others even when he disagrees with them.

U.S. PRESIDENT 

Joe Biden

Joe Biden was born in Scranton. His family moved to Delaware when he was 10. Biden earned a double major in history and political science from the University of Delaware before he went on to Syracuse University to earn his law degree. His first position in public service was as a city council member. In 1973, he was elected to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate. He held that position until he became the 47th vice president of the United States in 2009 during the Obama Administration.
